Join one of the fastest growing careers according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics

The future for Estheticians or skin care specialists is a very bright one according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The BLS projects employment growth of 12% from 2014 to 2024, which is an increase of approximately 6,600 jobs nationwide. This growth is driven by the increase in the general population wanting to take care of their skin and overall beauty.

What exactly is an Esthetician or skin care specialist?  Estheticians are licensed state by state to cleanse and exfoliate, wax, moisturize, and apply makeup to enhance a person’s overall appearance. During the Esthetics program at Penrose Academy you will first be introduced to the base of being an Esthetician. You will learn to assess the condition of the skin and make recommendations on what can be done to improve overall skin quality, along with learning facial cleansing, exfoliating and massaging techniques. You will also learn facial and body waxing, eyelash and eyebrow tinting and be introduced to skin resurfacing techniques like microdermabrasion and dermaplaning. As you move through your program you will learn treatments that are popular in the medical spa setting including SkinMedica chemical peels and micro-needling. In addition as part of our interactive curriculum you will work hands-on in our Student Spa, first assisting senior students and then moving on to see guests with different skin care concerns on your own.  As you approach graduation from Penrose Academy’s Esthetics program you will participate in 5 classroom days of state board boot camp, which will prepare you to take the Arizona Esthetician Licensing exams.

The BLS reports Arizona having the second largest concentration of jobs for Estheticians in the nation. The range of job opportunities for the licensed Esthetician is expansive from working in a resort style spa, a dermatologists or plastic surgeons office, as a waxing specialist, an educator or in sales for a skincare line, or in research and development. The opportunities are endless in Esthetics with a low unemployment rate of 1.9% and median salary of $30,090 according to the BLS.

Take the next steps in starting your career in this fast growing segment of the professional beauty industry this summer by joining one of our upcoming Esthetics Classes.
